Partial Knee Replacement
Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty is typically referred to as a partial knee replacement.
Your knee includes three separate compartments, which are the patellofemoral (between kneecap and femur), medial (inner knee), and lateral (outer knee). In this procedure, our surgeons will only replace one portion, or compartment, of the knee joint.
During a partial knee replacement, a relatively small incision is made. Our surgeons here in Houston will remove only the damaged compartment rather than the entire joint. They will then affix the knee implant to the prepared bone. Since partial knee replacements cause minimal trauma, patients are likely to make a rapid recovery.
